The San Diego Open has a unique and dynamic history. It began in 2021 as an ATP 250 event, establishing itself as a key tournament on the tennis calendar. In 2022, it expanded to include both the ATP 250 and WTA 500 tournaments in the same year, attracting even more attention. The event continued as a WTA 500 tournament in 2023 and 2024, showcasing world-class women's tennis.

In 2025, the tournament shifted to an ATP Challenger event, continuing its tradition of high-level professional competition while offering fans an even more intimate viewing experience.

In 2026, the San Diego Open added an ITF W100 event, making this year’s tournament the highest-level combined men’s and women’s tennis competition in San Diego history.

Today, the San Diego Open offers tennis fans an intimate and unforgettable experience, bringing them closer to the best players in the world.

OPERATED BY A NONPROFIT

At Youth Tennis San Diego (YTSD), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, we believe every child deserves the chance to dream, grow, and thrive. Through the power of tennis, we provide more than just a sport—we create a safe space for physical, mental, emotional, educational, and social development.

As the proud organizers of the San Diego Open; it’s a beacon of hope, showing our youth what they can achieve and inspiring them to reach for their dreams. We’re committed to breaking down financial barriers, offering free rackets, coaching, court access, and so much more to children in our community.

In 2025, we took a meaningful step forward by making the San Diego Open free for all youth under 18, opening doors for our community to dream big—together. Join us in nurturing the next generation, one swing at a time.
